‘Knock-Down///Hide-Away’ (Work In Progress)

March 31st, 2010 · 1 Comment · Interior Loci, Language of Vision

Sorry about the line down the middle. The pages are A3, so I had to scan them in in sections.

I’ve gone back to my first models because I think there is something to work with there and I find that this shape is quite interesting. At first I felt it was too simple but simple doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easy.

I have been exploring the joins while using the design to join to the next shape. I have made the shape more 3D and used the slots from the structure (made by joining each individual componant together) to join all the componants together.

The design of the seat is made up of the shape of the wall componant and another shape. The seat also fits into the wall when placed on its side. This also transforms the wall into a curve because the back of the chair is at a 135° angle (This angle is also meant to be the best angle for your spine according to this BBC article.

Each componant interlocks with the next corresponding shape as well as the slots being slightly different sizes to allow the next componant to be secure.

The chairs also stacks on top of each other to save space. The wall will be partly see through to allow light. But that will be further developed once my next models are cut on the laser cutter tomorrow.

This will continue tomorrow when my laser cut models are done and can be explored and developed.

To be continued……..

The whole idea of non-sedentary behavior works well with your overall concept and can be deployed not only to the chair but also to the entire office environment ‘forcing’ people to move, built and take down ephemeral interior structures etc
